English | Our Shaking Practice | More about the shaking sessions

A shaking session starts with silent meditation and/or with singing the Gayatri mantra sitting down.

During the shake, we sing the Gayatri mantra together. As much as possible we try to tune in so we can sing as one.

Meditation

Meditation is a very important part of the practice. It connects us to our Being or the Soul. We meditate with energy.

To connect, we place both hands above our head and feel the energy coming through the body. The arms can be put down after a while. If one feels that the connection is being lost, one can reconnect using this technique. Try to sit in a comfortable position so you are not distracted.

During the meditation repeat inside the mantra Om Swastiastu Ratu Bagus or the Gayatri mantra.

Circles

During the last 20 minutes of the session, we form concentric circles holding hands and continue shaking. In the ashram, if we shake outside, we form a circle around the temple, when there are enough people we form two circles.

The circles are formed with one person in the centre, the next circle constists of 3 people, then 5, the next circle is 8, then 12. If there are enough people, we make more circles and keep them as close as possible around the inner circles. It is better to have more outer circles with the arms stretched than to have the outer circles too far away from the centre.

In the middle, the energy is strongest. If you have a process, you are encouraged to move as close to the middle as you can to get maximum benefit. If you feel you want to be in the middle, please step forward.

Ratu wants us to form the circles as quickly as possible so that no energy is lost. When it takes a long time to form the circles we deprive ourselves from continuing with maximum energy. Therefore, each of us is responsible to form the circles as quickly as possible.

In the circles, it is important to keep the hands connected. If the energy is very strong, we stay connected rather than allowing a block in us to take us out of the energy and break the circle.

During the circle we sing:

Om Shakti Om Shakti Om
Brahma Shakti, Vishnu Shakti, Shiva Shakti, Om

Bhajans

The session ends with the singing of the following mantras and bhajans:

Hare Ganesha x3
Om Dum Durgayei Namaha x11
Mahadeva x3
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu x3
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om
